The Redbirds girls program is governed under the rules, regulations and by-laws of Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse (OWFL).

What is Women’s Field Lacrosse?

Women’s Field Lacrosse is a game that is fast, free flowing and easy to understand and watch. Foot speed, hand eye coordination and quickness are the main skills, and unlike minor (boys) lacrosse, there is no body contact. The game is played outside on grass and/or turf fields.

What Equipment is Needed?

As there is no body contact, equipment needs are minimal.

  • Girls Field Lacrosse Stick (This differs from a boy’s box/field stick)

  • A Mouthguard (Any colour other than clear and white)

  • Protective Goggles (For U11 and above)

  • Running Shoes and/or cleats

The growth of Women’s Field Lacrosse has been significant at the provincial level, and the expansion of the game in Newmarket/Aurora has mirrored this trend. Many of our athletes have competed for Team Ontario, and have gone onto play lacrosse for NCAA and OUA programs.

The Redbirds practice out of Newmarket and Aurora. While the majority of our players come from the Aurora/Newmarket area, the House League and Rep programs also draw from surrounding areas.
